Species at Risk Conference
In partnership with Chiefs of Ontario and Ontario First Nations Young People Council (OFNYPC), The Species at Risk Conference in Sault Ste. Marie was a multi-day gathering that brought Indigenous youth together with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community leaders to learn about land stewardship through an Indigenous lens. Through ceremonies, workshops, and storytelling, participants explored traditional practices that support the healing of the land and protection of at-risk species.
This unique event emphasizes intergenerational learning, cultural revitalization, and community connection. Youth engaged in dialogue circles, hands-on activities, and mentorship opportunities that fostered deeper relationships with the land, each other, and their cultures—strengthening Indigenous leadership in environmental stewardship.
The Indigenous Collective was present to capture the essence of the conference, holding interviews with the participants and leaders who came to share their knowledge.
